Our Commitment to Privacy

The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences' ("Academy") Privacy Policy is designed to assist you in understanding how we collect, use and safeguard the personal information you provide to us and to assist you in making informed decisions when using our site and our products and services.

Your use of our site means that you accept the practices set forth in this policy. We reserve the right to make changes to the policy by posting the new version with a new effective date. Your continued use indicates your agreement to the changes.

What Information Do We Collect?

When you visit our site you may provide us with two types of information: personal information you actively choose to disclose and information collected, on an aggregate basis as you browse our site ("Passive Information"). We also aggregate personal information and disclose such information to advertisers and other third parties for marketing, promotional, and other purposes.

Our site has been pre-populated with user accounts for all active members. As an active member your online account is subject to the status of your account with the Television Academy. Any information stored in your membership record may be used by our system for administrative purposes.

Our site utilizes cookies to collect information about how our site is used. How Do We Use the Information Collected?

We use Passive Information to gather information about our users and to enhance and design our site to make it easier, faster and friendlier to use. Additionally, cookies help us understand how many people visit our site, when they visit and how they use our service. Passive Information may result in your viewing of particular advertising based on your user habits for your viewing on our site and a shopping experience customized to you in content, services and goods.

The Television Academy may track user trends and activity in order to provide useful data for staff and the Board of Governors to make logistical decisions about the services provided.

We may otherwise use your information with your consent, or as otherwise disclosed at the time information is requested.

Third-Party Links and Tools

You may be able to access third-party websites through our site. When you do so you are doing so subject to their policies regarding privacy and data collection and you should read those sites' privacy policies to make sure you agree to them before using such sites. When you choose to shop at such sites, you should read their privacy policies to make sure you agree to them before making purchases. We do not control the privacy practices of those websites, and they are not covered by this privacy policy.

Sharing Information with Advertisers or Other Third Parties

We may disclose anonymous information about user habits, characteristics and user patterns, based on aggregate user statistics to advertisers on our site. We may also work with third parties that collect data about your use of the Site and other sites or apps over time for non-advertising purposes. The Television Academy uses Google Analytics and other third-party services to improve the performance of the Site and for analytics and marketing purposes. The parties who perform services for us (credit card processors, merchant bank, our Internet Service Provider) may also have access to your information in performing such services

Sharing excludes text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties. 

We may be required by subpoena, law or government agency to disclose information you have provided to us. In addition, we may disclose information as part of a corporate sale, merger, or acquisition, or other transfer of all or part of our assets, including as part of a bankruptcy proceeding, or with your consent.

How Do We Secure Information?

We secure your personal information submitted by you by using reasonable efforts to prevent unauthorized access or disclosure, or accidental loss or destruction of information. In this regard it is our policy not to distribute personal information by way of membership lists or the like to any third parties or to other members of the Television Academy if, in exercise of reasonable discretion, we determine that to do so would cause an unreasonable risk of further distribution of such personal information.
