Bill Cosby
"With Bob Hope's passing from the scene so recently, it's more important than ever to see the torch passed to others who embody his commitment to good works," said Academy chairman Bryce Zabel, who made the announcement.  "Bill Cosby, like Hope, has not only made Americans laugh over a long career, but he has also used his stardom to shine a light on strengthening the family values which make our country great.  He's the right man at the right time to receive this year's award."

Bill Cosby’s career in comedy has lasted over forty years. His debut television in I Spy broke the racial barrier of television and earned him three Emmy Awards. He also starred in the sitcom classic The Cosby Show, which ran from 1984 until 1992. Cosby received the Kennedy Center Honor in 1998 and the Presidential Medal of Freedom in July 2002. He was also inducted into the Television Academy’s Hall of Fame in 1992.

Established last year by the Academy's Board of Governors, The Bob Hope Humanitarian Award is one of the highest honors presented by the Board in recognition of the late Bob Hope's trailblazing career. The Award recognizes the contributions that were made by Hope for more than half a century to the growth and development of radio and television as a family medium and as a platform for political and social commentary. Oprah Winfrey was the first recipient of the award at last years Emmys.
