56th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards

Green with EMMY®: A Backstage Blueprint

Each year, the Emmys® honor the brightest talents in television. For the third annual appearance of The Architectural Digest Greenroom at the Primetime Emmy Awards, an equally bright talent— interior designer Stephen Shadley—has been commissioned to design this backstage lounge for celebrity presenters during the broadcast from
Los Angeles’ Shrine Auditorium.

“Being associated with a brand such as Architectural Digest complements the prestige of the Primetime Emmys and provides our talent with a luxury experience behind the scenes befitting such an event,” said Todd Leavitt, president, the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

Frasier’s Kelsey Grammer, The Sopranos’ Michael Imperioli and
The West Wing’s Martin Sheen— all nominees this year—have appeared in Architectural Digest in recent years. Set decorators are also regularly showcased in AD Set Design stories in the publication.

“This award-winning partnership is a prime example of what Architectural Digest does best: marrying Hollywood celebrity with incredible design,” explains Amy R. Churgin, vice president and publisher of the magazine.

The 2004 Greenroom embodies a fascination with the Spanish Colonial Revival seen in the architecture and interiors of California in the ‘20s and ‘30s. Dark wood floors and light stucco walls form a backdrop for Mission-style furnishings, while original Monterey
pieces, antique Navajo rugs and California plein air paintings add warmth and a sense of home.

Emmys night promises to be a winning evening: onstage and backstage, from the red carpet to the Greenroom.
