How Do You Spell Emmy? It All Depends on Your POV

If this year's comedy-themed Emmy telecast doesn't have them rolling in the aisles, at least there will be plenty of rolling on the stage, thanks to an innovative set plan unveiled by Production Designer Roy Christopher in advance of the Sept. 21 Primetime Awards show.

The centerpiece of the Fox broadcast from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles features a wheel within a wheel, with giant letters spelling out E-M-M-Y mounted on both revolving platforms. Since one moves clockwise and one spins counterclockwise to allow for a variety of visual effects, viewers can expect permutations like "MY EM," or maybe "YE ME." If that sounds less than spectacular in print, please take a look at the model photos.

Christopher and his team have a way of making these things work. He has been nominated 31 times for Emmy Awards and has won seven times, mostly for design work on Academy Awards telecasts.
