Me and My Emmy: Lou Eyrich

Far from a horror, Lou Eyrich feels nothing but gratitude for her career — and her Emmys.

Primetime Emmy Tally: Two

How She Got the Gold: For outstanding costumes, for FX's American Horror Story: Coven (2014, with Elizabeth Macey and Ken Van Duyne) and American Horror Story: Freak Show (2015, again with Macey and Van Duyne).

Now for the Noms: Two outstanding costumes nods for Fox's Glee (2010, and '11, both with Marisa Aboitiz) and one for American Horror Story: Asylum (2013, with Marcy Lavender).

Horror High: "The beauty of this show, for me, is how each season is so different. Coven was mostly contemporary; the color palette was predominantly black and had a sense of heightened style. Freak Show was a period piece and full-on Technicolor in tone. The freaks had more design detail, down to the buttons on the spats or the faded sequins on the leotard."

Lady Thriller: "As the countess [in AHS: Hotel], Lady Gaga could wear a full-on couture gown during the middle of the day and it was no big deal. She could wear a long red Yohji Yamamoto suit with a train to movie night at the Hollywood cemetery and no one blinked an eye. The looks were strong, bold, colorful — but Gaga felt comfortable and elegant and wore them with ease."

In the Beginning: "I fell into costume design either by accident or destiny. I toured with bands for a while, in the wardrobe department, but tired of that lifestyle. Then I worked as an entry-level costumer on a movie in Minneapolis and was hooked."

Winning Moment: "I'm actually quite shy, so a flood of panic swept over me as I realized I had to walk up on stage and speak in front of that crowd. And I was horrified that I hadn't written a speech!"

Bold in Gold: "When I look at my Emmys, I think, 'How did this happen? How did I get so lucky?' And then I feel gratitude."
