Television Academy Extends Contract with Outside General Counsel Dixon Q. Dern

The Television Academy announced today that it has extended its contract with outside general counsel Dixon Q. Dern for an additional year through 2015. The announcement was made by Television Academy President and COO Maury McIntyre. Dern has provided counsel on all of the Television Academy's legal matters and business negotiations during his more than three decades of service with the organization.

"Dixon is a vital part of our organization, combining excellent legal counsel with a deep understanding of the Academy and the industry. We look forward to his continued guidance throughout next year," said McIntyre.

Dern has played an instrumental role in the oversight of the Television Academy's license agreements for the Primetime Emmy telecast, as well as the establishment of both the Hall of Fame and the Television Academy Honors. Additionally, Dern has handled legal matters for the Television Academy Foundation including its educational outreach programs and its Archive of American Television's historic preservation program. He has also spearheaded trademark and copyright protection for the Academy, its Foundation and their many initiatives. In 2009, Dern was recognized with the Television Academy's Syd Cassyd Founders Award for his many years of service to the organization.
