Me and My Emmy

Me and My Emmy: William H. Macy

William H. Macy is trying to fill up his bookcase.

Primetime Emmy Tally: Two

How He Got the Gold: In 2003, for lead actor and for writing (with Steven Schachter), for the TNT movie Door to Door .

Now for the Noms: Four lead-actor nominations, in 2014 (Shameless), 2007 (Nightmares & Dreamscapes: From the Stories of Stephen King), 2005 (The Wool Cap) and 2000 (A Slight Case of Murder); one supporting-actor nom in 2004 (Stealing Sinatra); two guest-actor noms, in 2000 (Sports Night) and 1997 (ER); and one producing nom, in 2005 (The Wool Cap).

Way to Win: “The night Steven Schachter and I won, we had written a somewhat flippant thank-you speech, knowing there was little chance of actually having to give it. So we were both freaked out as we headed for the stage, thinking, ‘Are we going to offend everyone and ruin our careers?’”

No Shame: “I love Frank [Gallagher, his character on Shameless] because he is hardworking, clever, has a wonderful sense of irony and gets all he can out of life. It took me about 10 seconds to say yes to the series, because rarely does an actor get a chance to play a character so wrong in so many ways.”

Getting Real: “What frightens me most about acting is being caught out in an untruthful, un-genuine moment.”

Bronco Bill: “Riding a motorcycle is like getting to live life in the old west, with the bike being your trusty steed. And you get to wear kick-ass clothes. My favorite piece of road is Mullholland Drive, between my house and Warner Bros.”

Book ‘Em: “I keep my Emmys on a bookcase I built, and I often think, ‘Three would look better.’”
