Emotional highs and lows.

Television Academy and Unified

Whether a reimagined fairy tale, heartfelt coming of age story, or the inside look at a particularly juicy political scandal, television has a way of helping us escape the stress of daily life, even if only for 30 minutes.

This week we look at six finales that helped us do just that, making us gasp, laugh, and every reaction in between. In examining the social media accounts of Once Upon a Time, The Originals, Bates Motel, Jane the Virgin, Undateable, and The Good Wife, we were able to see which of the following plots got people talking on Twitter and Facebook:

  • Henry’s attempt to save his family in the season finale of Once Upon a Time
  • The Mikaelsons preparing to act on a risky plan in the biggest fight of their lives in the season finale of The Originals
  • Emma finally reaching her breaking point with Norman’s issues in the season finale of Bates Motel
  • Michael and Rafael arguing over Jane in the season finale of Jane the Virgin
  • Candace’s attempt to win a free house in the season finale of Undateable
  • Finn and Alicia helping a potentially illegally detained client in the season finale of The Good Wife

The Social Totals

Once Upon a Time made audiences believe in the magic of likes, shares, comments, retweets and favorites by generating 489.7K interactions for a 45.0% market share. Meanwhile second place goes to the vampires of The Originals, who glamoured fans and followers into generating 343.2K engagements for 31.6% market share.

Active Audiences

When it came to breaking down the activity level of each audience regardless of size, fantasy took a back seat to comedy as Undateable’s posts attracted 433.3 engagements per 1K users—the highest amount on both channels. Jane the Virgin also got lucky with 341.6 engagements per 1K users as the runner-up in this category.
