Academy of Television Arts Prevails for Broadband
New York Supreme Court deals new media blow to NATAS
March 5, 2008
The New York Supreme Court dealt the New York-based National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences a decisive blow Wednesday, refusing an appeal to reinstate its new media Emmy pursuits.
The Court reaffirmed
a December 2007 arbitration decision that jurisdiction over broadband and other new media, drama and comedy in particular, lies with the Los Angeles-based Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (the Television Academy).
“NATAS must now immediately get into compliance with the arbitration panel’s decision or face potential contempt proceedings,” Television Academy attorney George R. Hedges explained. “ATAS will now proceed to obtain an order from the panel awarding it the attorneys’ fees it has been forced to expend as a result of NATAS’ actions."
