Eligibility and Applications

Who may enter?

Students currently enrolled in a community college, college or university may apply. Only the student producer of record may enter and must be listed as such on the credit list.  The exception to this rule is in the Music Composition Category.  The producer OR composer may enter on the Composer’s behalf.  The Composer will be named as winner in that particular category.

How can I enter?

Enter the 29th College Television Awards online at ruckus.com/cta beginning October 21, 2007.

How much does it cost to enter the competition?

The first entry is free.  Additional entries are $25 each.  Payment details are on the submission form.

  • One entry per category per producer will be accepted (with the exception of the Music categories; see Music clarification below in Entry Rules & Eligibility, item #12).

  • You may not submit the same piece in more than one category (with the exception of the Music categories; see Music clarification below in Entry Rules & Eligibility, item #12).

All entries submitted more than once in the competition per the above rules will be subject to additional entry fees.

All producers submitting more than one piece in the competition per the above rules will be subject to additional entry fees.

During what time frame must the project have been made?

All entries must have been made while student was/is enrolled in college/university between January 1, 2007 and December 31, 2007 to qualify for this year's competition.

Are U.S. Citizens eligible if they produced their film at a college outside the U.S.?

No. This competition is only open to those students who have produced their video while enrolled in a community college, college or university the United States.

Are Graduate Student Films eligible?

Yes.

Are non-U.S. Citizens eligible if they produced their film at a U.S. College?

Yes, as long as they meet all the above requirements.

Purpose of the Competition

What is the purpose of the competition?

The College Television Awards competition rewards excellence in college student video, digital and film productions by honoring student producers.

While we recognize the various individual talents and efforts required to bring a video, digital or film project to fruition, these awards reflect the form and structure of the television industry. The producer is recognized by the Television Academy Foundation as the entity mainly and ultimately responsible for the whole and final product (with the exception of music composition).

Faculty and/or Professional Involvement Parameters

What role can faculty members have played?

Faculty can act in an advisory capacity only.

Can professionals have worked on the project?

Professionals may NOT have functioned in the following positions:

  • Producer
  • Executive Producer
  • Director
  • Director of Photography
  • Camera
  • Sound Recording & Off-line Sound Editing
  • Off-line Picture Editor
  • Lighting Director
  • Technical Director
  • Production Manager/AD
  • For entries in the "Best Composition" area of the Music category, all composers must be students. This will be verified.

Selection Process

How and where does judging take place?

All entries are judged online in preliminary panels composed of Television Academy members who are professionals working in each respective discipline. Students enter by category. The finalists are then judged by Academy Blue Ribbon Panels which will take place at the Television Academy offices.  The Blue Ribbon panels will select the winners.

Awards and TV/Film Industry Recognition

Are the winning projects screened for members of the Entertainment Industry?

Promos of the first, second and third place winners are screened at the Awards Gala. The following day, first place works are shown in full at the College TV Awards Screening, along with montages of the second and third place winners.
