Tony Charmoli

Tony Charmoli was an American dancer, choreographer, and director.

He began dancing on Broadway in the 1940s in shows such as Dear Judas and Make Mine Manhattan, before choreographing for television with Stop the Music, Your Hit Parade, The Dinah Shore Chevy Show, The Danny Kaye Show, and The Julie Andrews Hour.

One of the top choreographers in television history, Charmoli directed and choreographed nearly all of Mitzi Gaynor's television specials as well as two of Shirley MacLaine's. He often worked with Sid and Marty Krofft, directing Lidsville, The Bugaloos, and Fol-de-Rol. He directed several Bob Hope specials, several broadcasts of Circus of the Stars, dozens of televised pageants, as well as John Denver and the Muppets: A Christmas Together (1979).

In recent years, he collaborated with Beyoncé, LeAnn Rimes, and Justin Timberlake.

Throughout his career, Charmoli was nominated for Primetime Emmy awards 15 times and won three for Outstanding Choreography: in 1956 for Your Hit Parade, in 1974 for Mitzi… A Tribute to the American Housewife, and in 1976 for Gypsy in My Soul.

Charmoli died August 7, 2020, in Los Angeles, California. He was 99.
