Roger Smith was an actor and talent manager; as a performer, he was best known for his starring role as Jeff Spencer on the long-running ABC private-eye series 77 Sunset Strip.

Smith went on to manage the career of his wife, actress Ann-Margret, to whom he was married for 50 years.

Prior to leaving acting, Smith also appeared on the series West Point, Father Knows Best, Wagon Train, Hawaiian Eye, Surfside 6 and Mister Roberts.

Additionally, he had roles in the films No Time to Be Young, Man of a Thousand Faces, Auntie Mame and Criminal Affair, starring his wife.

Smith fell into acting in 1955, when he was stationed in Honolulu, Hawaii, while in the Navy. He met James Cagney, who was filming a movie there, and who urged him to move to Hollywood after he was discharged.

Smith died June 4, 2017, in Sherman Oaks, California. He was 84.
