R. Lee Ermey was an American actor.
He achieved his greatest fame when he played Gunnery Sergeant Hartman in the 1987 film Full Metal Jacket, which earned him a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. Ermey drew on his real-life experience as a United States Marine Corps staff sergeant and drill instructor for the role.
His other film credits include Mississippi Burning, Prefontaine, the remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Fletch Lives and Se7en.

He also had a substantial voiceover career, playing the lead of the green plastic Army solders in the Toy Story films along with a role in SpongeBob SquarePants, among others, and voice roles in multiple video games.
Ermey died April 15, 2018, in Santa Monica, California. He was 74.
