Michael Hamilburg

Michael Hamilburg was a literary agent and producer. He oversaw his father’s company, the Mitchell J. Hamilburg Agency, which his father started in the 1930s.

The agency’s list of clients included Gene Autry, Deanna Durbin, Bob Keeshan (Captain Kangaroo), Vincent Bugliosi, Jim Morrison, Paul Schrader and Jackie Robinson. Works by their diverse client list (actors, athletes, novelists, poets and politicians) were turned into films, television shows and books.

Hamilburg also worked on film projects, often contributing as a producer, including Billionaire Boys Club, Von Ryan’s Express, Taxi Driver, Shaft, The Castilian and Sydney Pollack's The Yakuza, for which he served as a co-producer.

He also worked as a co-executive producer on the 1994 telefilm White Mile, starring Alan Alda, Peter Gallagher and Robert Loggia. The TV movie followed the story of a whitewater rafting competition. It was nominated for two Golden Globes and one Emmy Award for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Sound Editing for a Miniseries or a Special.

Hamilburg went to University High School in Los Angeles and Menlo College and served in the Navy before he joined the agency.

He died January 1, 2016, in Beverly Hills, California. He was 82.
