Larry Siegel

Larry Siegel was an American comedy writer.

In the late 1950s, Siegel became eastern promotions manager for Playboy magazine, published by his University of Illinois acquaintance, Hugh Hefner. Siegel soon began writing humorous articles and satirical pieces for the magazine.

Siegel later wrote for MAD magazine, contributing over 300 pieces to the publication. He and writing partner Stan Hart wrote the lyrics and story for The MAD Show, a successful off-Broadway musical revue based on some of the content of the magazine.

Siegel and Hart began writing for television when they were hired by producer George Schlatter to write for Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In. Siegel would go on to write for Love, American Style, Good Times, That’s My Mama, Chico and the Man, CPO Sharkey, and The Carol Burnett Show, for which he won three Primetime Emmy Awards.

Siegel died August 20, 2019. He was 93.
