Jim Vance was one of the first African-American news anchors in a major market, and was the anchor of the WRC-TV news for more than 45 years, earning 19 regional Emmy Awards over the course of his career.

Vance also appeared on The Rock Newman Show and portrayed a news anchor on the series The Event and The Blacklist.

Prior to becoming a journalist, he worked as a teacher, and started reporting at WRC-TV in 1969. He covered stories all over the world, as well as the inaugurations of 12 presidents.
