Hugh Wilson was an American film director, writer and television showrunner.

He is best known as the creator of the TV series WKRP in Cincinnati and Frank's Place, and as the director of the film comedies Police Academy and The First Wives Club.

Wilson received three Emmy nominations in the category of Outstanding Comedy Series (in 1981 and 1982 for WKRP in Cincinnati, and in 1988 for Frank’s Place) and won the Emmy for Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series (in 1988 for Frank’s Place).
