David Phillips was a cinematographer best known for his work on the film The Basketball Diaries, starring Leonardo DiCaprio.

Phillips also served as the cinematographer on the films Lift, starring Kerry Washington and Beer League, starring Artie Lang and Ralph Macchio.

Additionally, Phillips contributed to the television series The High Life, as well as three episodes of Saturday Night Live.

Prior to his work on The Basketball Diaries, he worked on dozens of music videos, including those for New Kids on the Block's "Step by Step" and Cyndi Lauper's "I Drove All Night."

Phillips died February 4, 2017, in New York City. He was 66.
