Amy Dawes was an entertainment journalist who covered television, movies, music, pop culture and the city of Los Angeles, the last of which she examined in her 2002 book Sunset Boulevard: Cruising the Heart of Los Angeles.
The USC graduate contributed regularly to emmy magazine, Variety, the Directors Guild Quarterly, the Los Angeles Times, L.A. Weekly, Buzz Magazine and Rolling Stone.
Over the course of her career she interviewed an array of noted entertainment figures, including Robert Altman, Martin Scorsese, Robert Redford, Susan Sarandon, Anthony Hopkins, Ron Shelton, Will Smith, Lisa Kudrow and Randy Newman, among many others.
Dawes was also a staff writer at the Los Angeles Daily News and the Los Angeles Herald-Examiner, and served as the editor of Creative Screenwriting Magazine.

She herself had written several screenplays, including Deborah Attoinese’s 2001 indie drama Zoe, about three runaway girls who hijack a car.
Dawes died of cancer on February 24, 2017, in Los Angeles. She was 56.
