The Primetime Emmys® have celebrated the work of the most luminous talents in television for more than half a century. During this year’s telecast to millions around the world, many of these glitterati will assemble in the Architectural Digest Greenroom—a custom-designed backstage retreat where celebrity presenters relax during the broadcast from the Shrine Auditorium.

Anjelica Huston, Kelsey Grammer, Steven Bochco and Martin Sheen are among the Emmy-nominated actors and directors who have graced the pages of Architectural Digest. Additionally, the magazine regularly features the work of noted production designers and set decorators in its AD Set Design coverage.

“Architectural Digest is widely credited to have ‘invented’ the notion of a high-design greenroom, redefining backstage luxury,” said Amy Churgin, vice president and publisher, Architectural Digest. In honor of its fifth-annual greenroom at the Primetime Emmys, the magazine enlisted the talents of AD 100 designer Matthew White and Frank Webb of White Webb, LLC. The team has taken their inspiration from the Shrine’s Moorish-style architecture, transforming this year’s backstage oasis into a “Hollywood Casbah” complete with silvered arches, shimmering sheers and a turreted, square banquette.

From delicately colored walls in pale peach and soft pewter to vibrant furnishings in hot coral and shell pink, the room literally glows—like the stars who occupy it.

And the designers are...

Matthew White, a classicist, and Frank Webb, a modernist, blend their styles to create something entirely fresh and unexpected. Since partnering in 2004 to form White Webb, LLC, the team has developed an eclectic style resulting in projects that have gained international attention. For this year’s greenroom, the duo aimed to create an enchanting, glamorous space that creates the feel of being inside a genie’s lantern.
